I woke up this morning unsure of what the day held for me. I had two options: work on my gardening guide or take it easy. I was sitting here considering both options while browsing some websites, and then I checked my email. To my suprise, there were quite a few people who had given their support overnight (still, not nearly enough!) - so I decided that I'd begin working on some of the advanced gardening topics immeditately! Expect a guide update very soon!

Thanks to everyone who has supported my page, and read my guide. Also special thanks to rossmallo (from the GameFAQs forums) for contrubuting some information which I left out of the original guide, and also to Helen who pointed out a few spelling errors.

Okay guys - interesting fact! My guide has had over 2500 hits on GameFAQs, but I've only got a few new supporters! If you read my guide, please support me! I spent a lot of time preparing the content for that guide, and there's more to come! I would dearly like to see some reward for my efforts! Thanks.

Foreword

Hi guys! I hope everyone is having fun in this competition! Today I have an announcment for you all: GameFAQs has published the first version of my gardening guide. It's available on The Sims 3 FAQ page:

Of course, some of you may not believe me - it's published under a different name. Well, in that case, OPEN IT UP! It has a link straight to my Sims 3 fan page right at the start. How did that get in there? Well - I wrote the guide!

Anyway - here's the first part of the guide for you... I hope you get a chance to read it. Note that I started writing this a while ago, hence why it seems I haven't been playing long. I've been playing since the game came out! Happy reading, everyone.

Introduction

Welcome to my first ever guide. Let me begin by answering a fundamental question: why am I writing this? Since I started playing Sims 3 almost a week ago I have noticed an obvious deficiency in the amount of information related to the game. The game did not come with a set of instructions, and third party guides do not seem to contain the kind of information I've be searching for. For a game like The Sims, I found this to be rather perplexing. After all, the game has been available (although, not legally) for a number of weeks. Why hasn't anyone written a solid guide yet?

My solution is a simple one. From today I will be collecting as much information as I can in regards to the gardening skill; and developing a guide which is easy to understand and extremely comprehensive. I do this not because I care about the "gaming community", but because I have desire for perfection. Through writing such a guide I believe I can demonstrate a level of competency well above that of the casual gamer, and hopefully I can be the first one to do so.

Another question – why gardening? Honestly, I find gardening to be the most complex skill within the game. Unlike many of the other skills within the game, it is not straight forward. Of course you can just plant a seed and wait for it to grow; but that is ineffective if you want to get the best out of the skill. The other obvious reason is that gardening is a great source of income within the game; provided you are persistent. At the highest level, gardening is fairly simple – it's making it to the top which is hard.

My name is Dion Douglas. I have a pretty dull personality and I'm not the brightest torch in the shed (expect me to say some of the most preposterous things you've ever heard). To this day I wonder how I passed high school without the aptitude to read or write coherently. Luckily I'm good with numbers, eh? Although I might be mentally retarded, I'm physically blessed from head to toe, so it evens out!

I run a sweet fight gym in Narre Warren, which basically means I work 6 hours a week and make a killing from it. There are worse things in life than being a semi-retired 21-year-old, I can tell you that.

Back in the day, I'd roundhouse kick you in the fucking colon for looking at me in a displeasing manner, but in stark contrast to the old (young) Dion, I'm really chillaxed and unflappable these days--nothing really bothers me anymore. Some people might say that I'm arrogant, brash, cocky, egotesticles and self-absorbed... this may be true, but it doesn't alter the fact that I volunteer my time to help the disabled and elderly and that I'm an official organ donor (I even have this cool card to prove it).

My friends think I'm really vain, but I don't think I am... sure I like cameras and mirrors, but it has nothing to do with narcissism. Another misconception which you may have heard about me is that I'm rather promiscuous. This offends me greatly, as I'd choose a relationship with a proper woman over a mass orgy with sexy ladies any day! By "proper", I mean "worthy of me" and by "worthy of me", I mean... articulate, classy, compassionate, courteous, cultivated, cultured, decisive, eloquent, gorgeous (at least a 7/10!), infallible, refined, resilient, tasteful, witty and with her virginity still intact (I don't like second-hand bikes, cars, clothes and especially not second-hand women).

In a nutshell, I'm like a little otter.
